The Naperville Park District, The Heart Of The Community
Discovering the Heart of Our Community: A Journey into the Naperville Park District
Whether you are looking for a weekend hike along winding riverbanks, a place for your kids to try a new sport, or a quiet spot to connect with nature, Naperville’s park system has something special waiting for you.
As residents know, our park system is one of the brightest gems in the western suburbs. Spanning 156 park and facility locations across more than 2,400 acres, the Naperville Park District seamlessly connects neighborhoods, preserves natural landscapes, and provides recreation for all ages.
A Rich Legacy of Community and Growth
The story of the Naperville Park District began in 1966, when local voters established a dedicated park district to protect open space and serve a rapidly growing population. Over the decades, thoughtful stewardship and community vision transformed small municipal greenspaces into a sprawling, world-class park system.
Today, the Park District preserves natural habitats, such as the pristine trails around Knoch Knolls Nature Center, while maintaining top-tier facilities, including two championship 18-hole golf courses (Springbrook and Naperbrook), the state-of-the-art Fort Hill Activity Center, and the historic Millennium Carillon at Moser Tower.
Iconic Parks & Facilities You Can't Miss
With over 150 park locations, every corner of Naperville has its own favorite gathering spot. A few signature destinations include:
- The Naperville Riverwalk: Widely known as the "Crown Jewel of Naperville," this linear park winds along the West Branch of the DuPage River, featuring brick paths, pedestrian bridges, fountains, and outdoor performance spaces.
- Centennial Beach: A historic quarry turned into a massive 6.2-million-gallon swim facility, complete with sandy beaches, deep-water diving boards, and zero-depth entry areas.
- Fort Hill Activity Center: A 123,000-square-foot indoor recreational facility offering fitness equipment, an elevated walking track, multi-purpose gyms, and group exercise studios.
- Knoch Knolls Nature Center: Located at the confluence of the East and West branches of the DuPage River, offering environmental education programs, interactive exhibits, and miles of hiking and biking trails.

Something for Everyone: 8,500+ Annual Programs
Beyond open green spaces, the Naperville Park District offers more than 8,500 recreational classes, athletic teams, special events, and performances each year. From active seniors and toddlers to competitive athletes, community members are constantly discovering new passions.
What makes the Park District's programming special is its responsiveness to residents. Through online community feedback and trend analysis, staff regularly refresh offerings each season.
